The bulk of the mob officially commenced their campaign on Monday and Tuesday and will showcase their bag of tricks over the coming 10 days. The Masters tournament culminates with finals on October 6, 7 and 8.
“Players have been training very hard over the last six weeks,” over 50s representative Jeff Wilson said. “Goulburn is well represented in most ACT divisional sides, from the 35s up to the over 65s.”
Representing the ACT and flying the Goulburn flag at this year’s Masters will be Robbie Hughes (over 35s), Anthony White, Mark Dykgraaf and Anthony Wright (over 45s), Ian Croker, Conway Bogg, Jeff Wilson and Wayne Skillman (over 50s), Ron Gann, Peter Shepherd, Geoff Lane and Ian Hutchins (over 55s), Ken Briggs, Phil Downey and David Edwards (over 60s) and Jim Edwards (over 65s).
Their representation is a true compliment to a region proud of its hockey heritage. And while the squad admits the years have caught up with them to an extent, they’re determined to show the world they’re not a spent force.
The Goulburn brigade will take centre stage today at the National Hockey Centre in Lyneham. Robbie Hughes and his ACT teammates will tackle Queensland this morning, the over 45s contingent of Anthony White, Mark Dykgraaf, and Anthony Wright will tackle Queensland while Ian Croker, Conway Bogg, Jeff Wilson and Wayne Skillman will take the field for a game with South Australia.
