Managing director Howard Kneebone announced the closure last week with "upmost regret".
"I'm here with the other directors and we've had the job of terminating the majority of our (workers)," Mr Kneebone told the Goulburn Post on Friday.
"It's just caved in under pressure."
Mr Kneebone said due to China's increasing market dominance and reluctance to purchase processed wool, processing in Australia has declined every year for the past eight years.
