From its beginning as a children's home in 1929 in Goulburn, St Saviour's Neighbourhood Centre has had a long and proud history of service to the community.
St Saviour's Neighbourhood Centre employs close to 130 staff and has become a welfare agency managing more than $8 million of state and federal funding including programs for children, families in crisis, disability services, young people in care and many more.
The centre continues to be supported by the St Saviour's Ladies Auxiliary and Purple Patch Opportunity Shop. Funds raised through the proceeds of the annual fete and other fund raising ventures continue to support families and children in need in the local community.
Due to its proven track record for quality service provision and professionalism, St Saviour's Neighbourhood Centre has been asked to manage all Anglicare Youth and Family Services across the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn. The agency has more than doubled in size in recent years and now manages services in the ACT, Wagga Wagga, South Coast, Bowral and other districts.
A new Anglicare structure has been established by the Diocesan Synod of September 2001 marking a milestone in the life of Anglicare (Canberra and Goulburn). Three divisions (Community Services, Youth and Family Services and the Anglican Retirement Community Services) will enable better support and management capability for agencies and church community projects at a time of change and rapid expansion in the welfare sector.
In the Goulburn, area the agency continues to provide local services such as: family day care, long day care, Orana Pre-school, SUPS Program, child protection counselling, emergency accommodation, adolescent programs, Beat the Odds, flexibility plus disability services, vacation care, camps, True Colors Training, and out-of-home care services.
The naming day ceremony will be attended by Bishop George Browning, Bishop Godfrey Fryar, staff and guests to commemorate this special occasion.
