The series is expected to depict 1997 - 2005 which also covers UK PM Tony Blair, the marriage of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles and the early relationship between Prince William and Kate Middleton.
The prestige drama has drawn acclaim and criticism though the previous five seasons for intimate and sometimes fictionalised depictions of the royal family in private.
The sixth season of The Crown has already drawn some controversy for a reported depiction of the Diana's ghost, comforting Charles after her death.
Imelda Staunton, who will reprise her role as Queen Elizabeth, said the ending was bittersweet.
"All of us, the family as it were, we all wished we'd had more scenes together as the family, because they're all extraordinary characters and we all absolutely got on," she said.
The Crown will return for its sixth and final season in two parts. Part 1 comes out on November 16. Part 2 is released on December 14.
