Police have arrested two people after a dramatic live-televised police chase through the streets of Sydney's west.

Officers spotted a white Hyundai Sonata sedan that had been reported stolen driving on the Hume Highway at 9.30am on July 20 and started the pursuit.

Police pulled back with concerns for public safety a short time into the chase.
PolAir helicopters continued the pursuit from above.

Footage of the chase shows the white sedan weaving between cars in medium-density traffic and driving on the wrong side of the road.
The male driver, a 39-year-old man from Glenfield, crashed the allegedly stolen car into a roadside pole on North Rocks Road just after 11am.

Police arrested the driver and his female passenger, a 37-year-old woman from Ingleburn, at the scene.
NSW Police Superintendent Adam Whyte said two weapons, a sawn of rifle and gel blaster, were pulled from the back seat.
Inquiries are continuing, police said.
