THE RECOGNITION
The recognition rite dates back to the ancient procedures of the Witan - the supreme council of England in Anglo-Saxon times.
The King stands in the central space in Westminster Abbey - and turns to show himself to the people at each of the four directions - east, south, west and north.
Declarations are made saying "I here present unto you King Charles, your undoubted King.
"Wherefore all you who are come this day to do your homage and service: are you willing to do the same?"
The congregation and choir replies: "God save King Charles."
THE OATH
The Coronation Oath Act of 1688 requires the King to declare that he will maintain the established Anglican Protestant Church, rule according to laws agreed in Parliament, and cause law, justice and mercy to be executed in his judgement.
For the first time, there is a preface to the coronation oath in which the Archbishop says the Church of England "will seek to foster an environment where people of all faiths and beliefs may live freely".
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will read The Epistle - Colossians 1: 9-17.
After delivering his sermon, the Archbishop will be presented with the Coronation Oil.
Charles III's holy oil was made sacred in Jerusalem, and consecrated by the Patriarch of Jerusalem and the Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem.
It was created using olives harvested and pressed just outside Bethlehem, and perfumed with sesame, rose, jasmine, cinnamon, neroli, benzoin, amber and orange blossom.
THE ANOINTING
The anointing with holy oil is the central act of the religious ceremony and takes place behind a screen.
The King will remove his robes of state and wear a simple white shirt, representing that he comes before God as a servant.
Using his fingers, the Archbishop anoints the King on his hands, chest, and head.
THE INVESTITURE AND CROWNING
The King puts on a white linen garment called Colobium Sindonis, a golden coat called the Supertunica and the coronation girdle around his waist.
He is then presented with the coronation regalia, which includes a jewelled sword, bracelets and a ring, a glove symbolising the protection of the people, the Sovereign's Orb, and the Sceptre with Cross.
The Sceptre with Cross is the symbol of royal earthly power and was transformed in 1910 for George V with the addition of the spectacular Cullinan I diamond - 530.2 carats, and the largest colourless cut diamond in the world.
In recognition of multi-faith Britain, peers from from non-Christian faith traditions have been chosen to take part for the first time - but will only hold regalia that does not have explicit Christian motifs.
Finally the Archbishop brings the crown down onto the King's head and proclaims: "God save The King!"
The congregation responds: "God save The King!" with the Abbey bells then ringing for two minutes, a fanfare and gun salutes.
ENTHRONEMENT AND HOMAGE
The ancient enthronement ritual descends from coronations of old when early kings were crowned upon a mound of earth and lifted high on to the shoulders of noblemen for all to see.
The Archbishop will pay homage followed by the Prince of Wales. Kneeling before Charles, Prince William will pledge his loyalty and vow to be the King's liege man of life and limb.
The new Homage of the People replaces the traditional Homage of Peers by inviting people watching around the UK and overseas to join in by swearing allegiance.
THE CORONATION OF THE QUEEN CONSORT
Camilla will anointed on the forehead with the coronation oil in public view.
She'll be presented with the crown made for Charles's great-grandmother Queen Mary for George V's coronation in 1911.
The enthroning of the Queen will be accompanied by the coronation anthem Make a Joyful Noise, composed by Andrew Lloyd-Webber.
Charles and Camilla then change into their purple Robes of Estate and the King puts on the Imperial State Crown
As the couple leave the Abbey, the King will receive a greeting by leaders and representatives from different faith communities, and Governors-General.
He'll then proceed to the Gold State Coach with the Queen for their coronation procession back to Buckingham Palace.
