Showers across the country could dampen New Year's Eve plans this year with rain expected for large parts of Australia on December 31.

Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) senior meteorologist Jonathan How said most parts of the country should see warm, fair weather when the clock strikes midnight on new year's eve but some wet weather was likely in the lead up.
"In NSW, New Year's Eve is looking to be a little bit showery along the coast and we'll [see] some showers push through central inland and some thunderstorms through the day," Mr How said.
However, those showers and thunderstorms are expected to clear up by midnight, including for Sydney.
"For those planning to camp out at Sydney harbour, definitely bring a jacket or umbrella during the day but it should be mostly dry by midnight," Mr How said.
Similarly, showers are expected for the ACT but conditions are expected to clear up by midnight.
Queensland is expected to be wet across the state's north on new year's eve.
"Which is pretty usual monsoon conditions," Mr How said.
Queensland's central coast, southeast region and Brisbane are expected to see light showers but should be mostly dry by midnight.
Like the rest of the eastern states, Tasmania and Victoria will see showers throughout the day but dry conditions are expected as revellers ring in the new year.
"It's looking warm and on the humid side for Melbourne," Mr How said.

Adelaide reached its highest recorded temperature in nearly a year on Tuesday when the city reached 41 degrees.
Most of Western Australia can expect a dry and warm new year's eve, including Perth.
However, across the state's top end and in large parts of the Northern Territory there will be plenty of rain and storms with the continuation of a tropical low, according to forecasts.
New Year's Day could see more light showers across the country's east but with warm weather expected.
