Eurobodalla faith leaders are among a national cohort calling for climate action with an open letter to government

The letter arranged by Rev Peter Catt, Dean of Brisbane, called for carbon emissions to be halved by 2030, movement towards 100 per cent renewable electricity and greater investments into preparing communities for extreme weather events.

Dr Browning signed the letter for three reasons: the dire need for climate action, what he sees as the persistent politicking of what should be a bi-partisan issue and the importance of stewarding the creation according to his Christian faith.

"We are at the point of almost no return with climate," Dr Browning said.

"There is very little time for humanity to respond effectively.

"We need a decarbonised economy."

Dr Browning is a self-professed realist. He knows his voice alone will not make much difference.

"If we can add our voice to [other communities] in favour of a decarbonised world, the combination of all the voices together should be sufficient to make sure that whatever government we have is at the forefront of change," he said.

Before his retirement, Dr Browning was the international chair of the Anglican churches environmental network. He holds a PhD in environmental ethics.

Anglican Parish of Moruya rector Rev. Linda Chapman OAM said she supported the statement. She and the congregation held a banner calling for climate action outside the church on Easter Sunday, April 17.

She said her community had been significantly impacted by the Black Summer bushfires which she saw as a consequence of climate change.
