Some 41 competitors from all over the state took part in the Southern Country Teams Championships Table Tennis tournament at the Goulburn Table Tennis Club on Sunday, January 30.
Goulburn Table Tennis Club treasurer Nicola Fraser said 20 teams took part over two divisions and the quality of table tennis was very high, especially in one of the grand finals.
"The grand final in Division 1 was highly contested between two ACT teams and went down to the wire," Fraser said.
"All the games were exciting and were played in a very good spirit."
Four teams from Goulburn competed, with the best finish being fourth in Division 1.
Division One was taken out by the strong Canberra Club with ACT 2 consisting of Michael Bowrey and Toby Clarke defeating ACT 1 ( Faisal Pirani and Arnab Rakshit) in the closely fought final - 3 rubbers to 2.
The Goulburn No 1 side of Mark Soley and Richie Jiang came fourth. Both winning 6 out of their 12 singles matches. The Goulburn No2 side of Michael Turner and Ravi Kumar came ninth in Division 1.
Division two was taken out by the junior team Richard Fu and Feynman An from the Paul Zhao Academy in Hornsby. They defeated another ACT team 3 - 0 in the final.

Goulburn submitted two teams in Division 2, they came 7th and 10th respectively. Goulburn No 3 consisted of Jack Gray and Bagaskara Ariza with Goulburn No 4 players being Chising Chung and Dave Manning.
With tournaments like these, plenty of experience is gained from all players, especially the youngsters.
"This is a great experience for all the players to come out of their local club areas and to play different players from other clubs," Fraser said.
"That improves everyone's game and gives them exposure to other players."
