Residents call for repairs to Braidwood, Bungendore and Cullulla Roads

That's how disgruntled Tarago residents are describing the roads leading into town.

They've called out Braidwood Road between Goulburn and Tarago and Bungendore Road between Tarago Road and Taylors Creek Road as particularly problematic.

Potholes and broken road edges have appeared along both thoroughfares, prompting residents to describe them as "dangerous."

Goulburn Mulwaree Council has also aired its frustration with Braidwood Road's condition. It is maintained by Queanbeyan Palerang Shire Council under a state government contract.

"The general manager has been in contact with Transport for NSW and we have aired our frustration with the lack of maintenance in regards to Braidwood Road, which is a key transport route in our region," a spokesman said.

"We have been advised the road will be repaired in early 2022. We have advised Transport for NSW that the timeframe is unacceptable and will cause considerable traffic safety issues over the December and January period."

Residents said "bad patches" had also surfaced on Cullulla Road, travelling towards Nerriga, and the causeway consistently flooded during heavy rain.

Goulburn Mulwaree Council, which looks after Cullulla Road and parts of Bungendore Road, is doing work on both.

"The council maintains part of Bungendore Road regularly and undertook stabilising patching works last year," the spokesperson said.

"There is further money budgeted in next financial year for more improvements.

"We have also received service requests regarding the Cullulla Road causeway in recent weeks and we are attending to these as a matter of priority.

"The council has allocated funding for replacement of this causeway with a box culvert and we expect this to occur in March.

"Alongside this project, we will also be undertaking 300 metres worth of approach improvements on either side of the crossing."

Tarago and District Progress Association president Adrian Ellson said the roads were unsafe to drive and trucks made them worse.

"The road conditions are too unsafe for someone travelling from Bungendore via Tarago into Goulburn," Mr Ellson said.

"We prefer people to go up through Bungendore Road and onto the Federal Highway.

"With the volume of heavy vehicle traffic that's now on the roads around here, they become increasingly unsafe."

He also said Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council (QPRC) would have accumulated about $3 million over several years via section 94 contributions from Veolia Environmental Services, but "hadn't spent a cent."

"They just need to do something," he said.
