McDonald's has launched an audacious bid to cash in on our love of deep fried chook, launching its own southern-fried chicken range in just a handful of NSW stores.
Illawarra residents are among the chosen few who will have the new range right on their doorstep, with McDonald's Dapto among the five NSW stores now carrying the range.
The other stores selected for the trial were Waterloo, St. Marys North, Padstow and Waitara - all based in Sydney.
Fried chicken, unilaterally recognised as a comfort food originating in the American deep south, has been increasingly appearing on Australian menus in recent years, however the fast food variety has always been seen as the bastion of KFC.
Now, McDonald's is attempting to insert itself into the market with its new offering, which has already been compared to KFC in a TikTok video posted by Adrian Widjy.
"Do you prefer this or KFC?" a follower asked the Sydney foodie.
"It's hard - I'd eat both," Adrian replied.
