Quad bikes laws come into effect
Australia's mandatory Quad Bike Safety Standard fully comes into effect on Monday, October 11.
From Monday, if you want to buy a new or second-hand imported general-use quad bike, it must be fitted with operator protection devices.
This means all general-use ATVs must have an OPD fitted into the bike or integrated into its design. However, at this stage, existing quad bikes owned by Australian farmers do not need to be retrospectively fitted with an OPD.
Extra child care support coming in March
The Morrison government has brought forward an increase in the child care subsidy to start in March next year, four months earlier than originally planned.
But Labor described the package as a dud, with many families left out in the cold and without getting anything additional.
Education Minister Alan Tudge said about 250,000 families will benefit from the increased subsidy and by more than $2200 per year on average.

The 'Shot of Hope' report released on Monday by 'The End COVID For All' campaign says delays to vaccination of developing nations creates the risk of deadly, more contagious COVID variants and it is calling on Australia to lift its commitment to the global vaccination effort by $250 million.
The report notes, on current trends, 19 low income countries won't reach 70 per cent vaccination until 2030. As well, two-thirds of 77 epidemiologists surveyed urge immediate action or they predict COVID-19 will mutate in less than a year.
Lennon broke up The Beatles: McCartney
Paul McCartney has revisited the break-up of The Beatles, flatly disputing the suggestion that he was responsible for the group's demise.
Speaking on an episode of BBC Radio 4's This Cultural Life that is scheduled to air on October 23, McCartney said it was John Lennon who wanted to disband The Beatles.
