Direct trains in the Southern Highlands and Tablelands delayed until this evening

Transport for NSW announced on September 26 that Regional Trains, Sydney Trains, NSW TrainLink Intercity services would not run between 9am to 1pm today (September 28).

The authority was informed by Rail Tram and Bus Union that their members "intended to take planned industrial action."

The strike was planned by unions to advocate for safer working conditions throughout the pandemic and better pay.

"All we were asking for was a clean, safe and efficient transport system to work in and to be paid fairly for the work we were doing," said Rail, Tram and Bus Union NSW secretary Alex Claassens.

The Southern Highlands Line runs from Goulburn to Campbelltown.

According to the Transport for NSW timetable, the last train that travelled directly from Goulburn to Campbelltown was at 5:30am.

The next direct train for this route will not depart from Goulburn Station until 7:54pm.

Transport for NSW advised commuters to drive where possible, and use alternative modes of transport such as bus, metro or ferry if they could.

Essential workers were also encouraged to work from home where possible.

Commuters can use buses throughout the day and then board a train in the afternoon, but it takes longer.

The Southern Highlands Line will be operating in the afternoon, but travellers will have to depart on certain platforms and wait for the next train, which can take over an hour in some cases.
