Agencies act after COVID-19 detection in Goulburn apartment block

A multi-agency response, led by the Southern NSW Local Health District is underway at the Bungonia Place social housing unit building in Goldsmith Street as a result.

While the Health District did not name the location, in a multi-agency response, police, the Australian Defence Force (ADF), SES and health staff attended the Bungonia Place apartments in Goldsmith Street on Saturday.

The Health District spokeswoman said residents of two apartments had tested positive for COVID-19.

"All residents have been notified and tested for COVID-19," she said.

"All positive cases have been relocated to supported (Local Health District owned) accommodation and cleaning of communal areas has been completed.

"All residents will be closely monitored and appropriate support will be provided as needed."

The Health District has not detailed how many cases emerged from the units. The Post has asked for this information.

A security guard was stationed outside the apartments on Saturday night.

It comes as ADF personnel are deployed across the Hume Police District as part of an expansion of COVID-19 welfare and compliance checks across the state.

They are conducting daily welfare checks and supporting the wellbeing of those self-isolating.

"The troops are here to support the community alongside police. Locals can expect to see them checking on the welfare of our most vulnerable people," Southern Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Joe Cassar APM said.

Meantime, residents reported a long line up for COVID testing at the Goulburn Base Hospital clinic on Saturday.

Goulburn Mulwaree has had 20 COVID cases reported in the past 30 days. Four of these were reported on Saturday, with two being linked to known cases and the other two under investigation.

Up until Saturday, the Health District has recorded 98 positive COVID cases across its vast area since June. There were 82 active cases. Sixteen had recovered and four had been admitted to hospital.
