COVID-19: NSW records 1218 cases

There were six deaths from COVID-19 recorded in the same 24 hour time period, including three in their 80s and three in their 70s.

"Four of them were unvaccinated and two of them had only had one dose of the vaccine," Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

Meanwhile in the seven days to Saturday, 834,000 people in NSW came forward for vaccination.

Ms Berejiklian said she expected 70 per cent of the population to be fully vaccinated by mid-October.

The Premier said 834,000 people were vaccinated in NSW in the past week.

"That is an outstanding result. It's broken all our records," she said.

"As a result 65 per cent of our population have had at least one dose and 35 per cent of our population is fully vaccinated. We're halfway through that magic 70 per cent number across the state, in order to have those extra freedoms."

The state total includes 18 of new cases of community transmission in Dubbo in Western NSW.

The Hunter Region has recorded seven new cases of COVID-19, NSW Health said on Sunday. One person in the Hunter is in intensive care due to COVID, with eight in hospital in total.

Across the Western NSW Local Health District there were 25 new cases. In addition to those in Dubbo, there were three in Narromine, two in Bourke, one in Brewarrina and one in Nyngan.

NSW Heath has also detected traces of COVID in the sewage at Trangie, Byron Bay, Tamworth and Walgett. There are concerns undiagnosed cases of COVID-19 are in the community.
