In court: Intoxicated man arrested after failure to 'move on' during night out

Ryan Brent Austen Gittos, 45, of Goulburn, faced a charge of continuing intoxicated behaviour after directed to move on by police. He pleaded guilty at Goulburn Local Court on July 28.

A move on direction is an order given to a person by a police officer to leave a public place and not return for a specified period of time.

Gittos, who represented himself, argued he went to get food with friends after they were ordered to move on from a licensed premises on Auburn Street.

"We didn't think we were doing wrong," he said.

Gittos said he was later "arrested because I didn't go home and was waiting for food".

Magistrate Geraldine Beattie told the court the maximum fine for this offence was $1100

"I appreciate you went away from the licensed establishment, [but] you need to get further away and stay away," she said.

The magistrate said Gittos was "carrying on and yelling and swearing at police" which resulted his arrest.

"No one needs to put up with that sort of behaviour," she said.

Gittos was fined $450.
