Carr Confoy Park netball courts could get a $700,000 face-lift via government funding aimed to support women's sport.

At a meeting on June 1 Goulburn Mulwaree Council voted to submit an application for $946,853 in government funding to improve sport facilities in Goulburn.
The proposal included $700,000 for the resurfacing of the netball courts at Carr Confoy, and an additional $350,000 for emergency access, landscaping, toilets, signage and tiered seating at North Park.

A sum of $100,000 will be added from the Special Capital Reserves Fund to supplement money allocated by the state government.
The proposed funding is part of a $100 million state government Stronger Country Communities Fund. $50 million has been allocated for projects that enhance female sporting facilities and increase female participation in sport. A further $50 million is available for other community and sporting infrastructure.
Operations director Matt O'Rourke said currently the surface of the netball courts "had some low spots and holds water". He said the proposed resurfacing would reshape the courts to improve drainage.
Mr O'Rourke said that of the approximately 400 netball participants in Goulburn almost 100 per cent were female.
Another option was to put the money into Rugby League at North Park, but Mr O'Rourke said only approximately 20 per cent of participants were female.
"The primary objective of this fund is to enhance female participation in junior sports," he said.
In committee, Councillor Margaret O'Neill argued the funding should be put towards improving Rugby League facilities at North Park.
Cr O'Neill said the dressing sheds and canteen were a "disgrace".
"It is embarrassing.
"I think the sporting budget is going great. We've got hockey, soccer, we've got all these kind of things, but we've got to look at the other sports that have been struggling for all these years with nothing."
In response, Mr O'Rourke accepted the facilities at both Carr Confoy and North Park were "substandard".
He said new dressing rooms and facilities at North Park were "bigger projects, they require more planning compared to what we can do with the resurfacing of the netball courts, there are a number of factors at play that align with us getting this application together".
Councillor O'Neill put forward an amendment to split the funding to $500,000 for each of the two projects but failed to get a seconder.
