Julianne Selway, the coordinator of Goulburn Volunteer Resource Service, feels that volunteering is a great way to become and stay involved in the community.
"It helps you learn about your community, make new friends and learn new skills which in turn, helps to build confidence. Through volunteering, one can support a cause they believe in. It also helps them gain work experience and be social," she said.
The annual Volunteer Expo this year will be held on May 21 at Goulburn Community Centre where a total of 17 local organisations will be offering information on volunteering opportunities.
The expo coincides with National Volunteer Week that is held between May 17-23.
"As it's National Volunteer Week, the focus of this week is volunteering. It's a way to recognise and remind people what volunteers do for their community," Julianne said.
She further said that most of the volunteers are seniors and had stopped volunteering altogether due to Covid.
"We are now looking to involve community members, especially the younger ones, in volunteering," she said.
"A lot goes on in the community that wouldn't happen if it was not for our volunteers. It would be good to get the younger generation involved as well."
The organisations that are going to be a part of this year's expo include National Trust Riversdale, Mulwaree High School Remembrance Museum, SES, RDA Goulburn, Goulburn AP&H Society, Celebrate Goulburn, Lions Club, Cemetary Friends, Meals on Wheels, Goulburn Multicultural Centre, Shine for Kids, other council museums, Growing Abilities and RSS.
They will set up their stalls at the Goulburn Community Centre and will be present to have a chat and provide information.
