These shoots take place on the third Sunday of every month from February to November, and accrue points for those that shoot the best score. The Club Championship will be held on the first Sunday in December.
The day was cool and the sky was clear, with a light frost on the ground. The breeze was tricky, and picked up as the day went on. The club had six shooters on Sunday.
Scores for the competitors were:
- Rob Eager - shooting bench rest, scoring 199 with 15
- Ivan Wilson - shooting bench rest, scoring 198 with 13 centrals
- Kylie Watts - shooting bench rest, scoring 198 with 12 centrals
- Chris Gaul - shooting bench rest, scoring 196 with 13 centrals
- Charlie Watts - shooting bench rest, scoring 194 with 11 centrals
- Paul Wyles - shooting prone, scoring 188 with 8 centrals
The competitors provided some excellent shooting, with excellent scores to follow. The best score that can be shot is 200 with 20 centrals.
The GSBRC had two members, Jan and Brian Mitchell, compete in the NSW RBA Titles in Sutherland. The club congratulated Jan on coming second with a score of 747 with 43 centrals out of a possible 750 with 75 centrals.
Member David Wright also competed in two events which could see him selected in the national team for the Oceania Games.
The first took place in South Australia in the state championships. David shot exceptionally well, taking out first place in the 50 metre prone.
He then travelled to Brisbane to compete in the Brisbane Cup. David shot well, but did not make the final.
2020 was a year where changes needed to be made, but the club implemented a COVID plan which kept all members safe. Now in 2021 as COVID restrictions have now been eased even further, the club is now able to have visitors to the range and can have more people in the clubhouse.
Anybody interested is welcome to come along and have a shoot or just come and see what smallbore rifle shooting is all about.
Goulburn Smallbore Rifle Club meets at the GWSBRC Range at the top end of Sports Way, off Finlay Road, as part of the Goulburn Workers Club Arena Sporting Complex.
The range is usually open on Sunday from about 9.30am for practice, training and club competition; beginners, shooters new to target competition and juniors 12 years and over (supervised by a licenced adult guardian) are welcome.
