The Goulburn Smallbore Rifle Club had eight members entered into the Target Rifle Australia National Championships held in Shepparton, Victoria over the Easter long weekend.

First up was the 50 Metre Benchrest competition on Friday morning, in which seven of our eight members competed.
The weather started off beautiful and sunny with no wind at all, but as the day progressed the breeze picked up proving a little tricky. The temperature ranged from 18 degrees through to 28 degrees with wind gusts ranging from 4km/h to 20 km/h.
There were three squads with all shooters shooting on electronic targets, with decimal scoring. Each shooter shoots 60 competition shots totalling 654.
Scores for the competitors on day one were (all scores out of a possible 654):
- Jan Mitchell - 633.9
- Brian Mitchell - 629.5
- Richard Brodie - 629.5
- Chris Gaul - 628.3
- Rob Eager - 627.8
- Charlie Watts - 618.7
- Kylie Watts - 612.1
Scores for the competitors on day two were: (all scores out of a possible 654):
- Brian Mitchell - 632.5
- Jan Mitchell - 630.6
- Richard Brodie - 624.5
- Rob Eager - 623.8
- Charlie Watts - 622.8
- Kylie Watts - 619.2
- Chris Gaul - 617.5
The overall positions for our seven competitors were:
- Jan Mitchell - fourth
- Brian Mitchell - fifth
- Richard Brodie - 21st
- Rob Eager - 24th
- Chris Gaul - 35th
- Charlie Watts - 40th
- Kylie Watts - 46th
Graded results for Benchrest are as follows:
- Master Grade: Jan Mitchell - third
- A Grade: Brian Mitchell - first
- Richard Brodie - sixth
- Rob Eager - ninth
- Chris Gaul - 16th
- B Grade: Charlie Watts - 12th
- C Grade: Kylie Watts - fourth
This is fantastic shooting by all of our Benchrest shooters. There was some stiff competition from other shooters from all over the country.
Jan and Brian Mitchell also made the NSW State team which came in third behind Victoria and South Australia,
Saturday was also the 50 Metre prone men's competition. This competition is shot on electronic targets, with decimal scoring. Each shooter shoots 60 competition shots totalling 654
We had one competitor: David Wright.
The weather was a pleasant 20 degrees, but the breeze had picked up and was gusting at 20km/h.
David shot well and earned 614.5 points, which secured him third place overall.
Sunday and Monday saw the Jim Smith 50 Metre Prone competition take place. We had two entered competitors in David Wright and Richard Brodie.
There were two squads on both days with all shooters shooting on electronic targets, with integer scoring. Each shooter shoots 60 competition shots totalling 600 with a possible 60 central count.
The weather was nice on both days with an average temperature of 23 degrees and wind gusts up to 15kph.
Scores for day one:
- David Wright - 587 with 36 centrals
- Richard Brodie - 573 with 27 centrals
Scores for day two:
- David Wright - 587 with 33 centrals
- Richard Brodie - 571 with 21 centrals
Overall results for the two-day competition were:
- David Wright - fourth, and third in Master Grade
- Richard Brodie - 21st, and second in C Grade
It was a fantastic display of shooting by both men.
As COVID restrictions have now been eased even further, we are now able to have visitors to the range and we can have more people in our the clubhouse. Please feel free to come along and have a shoot or just come and see what smallbore rifle shooting is all about.
Goulburn Workers Smallbore Rifle Club meets at the GSBRC Range at the top end of Sports Way, off Finlay Road, as part of the Goulburn Workers Club Arena Sporting Complex.
The range is usually open on Sunday from about 9.30am for practice, training and club competition; beginners, shooters new to target competition and juniors 12 years and over (supervised by a licensed adult guardian) welcome.
