Overcast conditions and a strong easterly provided a challenging headwind in the back straight and up the climb to the back of the course.
A and B Grades were combined and racing was tight throughout the race. Jacob Emmerton continued his good form taking out the win from Andrew Stewart and birthday boy, Jeremy Gilchrist in third place.
Ian Wardale, Tony Neate and Chris Berry rode strongly at the front of the C Grade peloton while Shannon Apps and Nadine Moroney managed to hold their wheels.
Berry lead the group into the bell lap powering along the back straight and leading the riders up the climb at the back of the course.
Wardale and Neate made their break on the fast descent to the finish line with Apps and Moroney in hot pursuit. Berry caught and passed Moroney on the downhill and accelerated out of the corner to pass Apps in the sprint to the finish but it was Wardale that took line honours from Neate.
In D Grade, junior riders Elsie Apps and James Quade were not overawed by their older and more experienced competitors. James raced smartly taking out the win from the fast finishing Elsie. Wayne Skillman finished in third place.
Next Wednesday, March 17, is the third and final round of the Club Championships at Wakefield Park for a criterium. Sign on is from 5.45pm with racing from 6.15pm.
