"Anecdotally, I'm sure we're all aware of the hard work and achievements of women in our communities," Mrs Worthy said.
"But one of the things that became clear when we took photos in the main street businesses of Taralga, Gunning and Crookwell was just how significant the number is of women working in those workplaces.
"Whether owners, managers or staff, so many of our businesses would fall over without the volume of work and quality of leadership of women in the workplace... and of course the contribution of women at home is immeasurable."
Mrs Worthy said that she believes the work of women deserves recognition, and added that, more broadly, International Women's Day plays a key role of drawing attention to the plight of women in countries where their treatment does not allow them to grow or add to their communities.
Cr Kensit, the sole female Councillor in Upper Lachlan Shire Council, believes there is a need for greater female representation in the public sphere.
"Women represent less than a third of all Councillors and Mayors in the state's 128 Councils," Cr Kensit said.
"You can't dismiss female under-representation along purely gender-based voting preferences when half of those voting are women. More women need to stand.
"I think in every arena a balance of males and females achieves the best results and the same is true of Council."
International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8 each year and celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality. The first IWD gathering took place in 1911 supported by over a million people.
