The workshop, funded by Create-NSW Country Arts Support Program, had asked women across the region to come together on February 13-14 at Crookwell CWA to share their experiences of surviving climate hardships like drought, fire, and flood.
The stories from the workshop were to be later attached to the Lieder Theatre's production in April of a new play The Interesting Mrs Abell by Annie Bilton.
"However, changing situations due to the pandemic led to the change of date for the event. Our facilitator Alyson Evans was travelling from Victoria when the lockdown was announced and she had to rush back," Miss Bilton said.
"Before she left, we had a meeting and we have decided to postpone the event in May. However, that unfortunately means that we won't be able to attach the stories to the Lieder Theatre's production."
The aim of the workshop is to encourage women to share their stories which will later become a part of regional and family historical records. "The stories too often fade away and I wanted to find a way to tell their stories in the future," she said.
There are some women who feel uncomfortable sharing their story in a public space because there is too much pain from the memory of what they have been through. The role of the professional facilitator is to help in building and sharing their stories with others.
Once the stories are recorded, they will be sent to families, communities, historical societies and CWAs among others so that it becomes a part of the regional records.
