The Goulburn Day VIEW Club started the new year with lunch at the Soldiers Club where 20 members and several guests enjoyed a delicious lunch.

The gathering was held on Thursday, February 4.
The Welfare group had no visits to members, however our thoughts are with Margaret Walcott who has been in hospital lately. We hope she gets well soon. Hope Sykes is also unwell and we wish her all the best. Our best wishes also to Dawn Carey and hope she will be back soon as she is missed at our meetings. It was nice to welcome back Maria Kenk.
For our major raffle for 2021, a barbecue has been donated and we thank the donor for this. We would like more donations for our major raffle and several VIEW ladies have agreed to donate items. The raffle is required to raise money for our Learning For Life students for this year. The raffle will be drawn at our December meeting.
Our zone councillor, Wendy Studman, advised that VIEW Clubs raised $5.3 million last year, there were 14,861 VIEW Club members, 306 clubs and 1450 Learning for Life students.
She showed us a video of Learning for Life recipients stating what 60 years of VIEW meant to them (as we have just celebrated the 60th anniversary). Some said 'they now had shoes, uniforms, stationery, etc and they were very appreciative.
Maria Kenk and Delma Nelson were presented with a small birthday gift.
Margaret Gooch and Barbara Creese won the raffles. Brenda Writer won the lucky program, while Maria Kenk and Kayleen Tremble scored lucky door prizes.

As it was our Annual General Meeting, zone councillor Wendy Studman took the meeting for the election of office bearers for 2021. Wendy is the zone councillor for Area AA01 and a past president of Canberra City Evening VIEW Club. She has also been a member of VIEW for eight years.
The new committee is: President - Margaret Gooch; secretary - Jenni Aubrey; treasurer - Kayleen Tremble; publicity officers - Carol Olsen and Delma Nelson; welfare officer - Brenda Writer; program officers - Joan Scott and Maree de Brit. Wendy read the code of conduct and all elected office bearers recited the pledge of office and were installed as president and committee for 2021.
Our next social outing will be on February 18, 2021 at K&G's at noon. Names to be to Margaret Gooch by 7pm on Monday, February 15.
Our next meeting will be Thursday, March 4 at 11.30am at the Goulburn Soldiers Club. A reminder that membership subscriptions of $20 should be paid by March.

Don't forget members have a choice to 'pay off' special event/occasion meals over $25 before and up to the function date. This could be very beneficial for some of our major functions such as our birthday, the Melbourne Cup and Christmas.

VIEW women volunteer their time helping disadvantaged children to make the most of their education, including reading to pre-school children, mentoring at local Smith Family after-school Learning Clubs, sharing craft skills through the making of student stationery packs and assisting with student breakfast programs at Schools.
VIEW sponsors 1450 disadvantaged Australian children through The Smith Family's Learning for Life program which provides support in the form of access to literacy programs (including reading, financial and digital skills-building initiatives) delivered by mentoring and tutoring, along with financial support for essential school items such as uniforms, books and excursions.
