Ray White Rural Canberra and Yass agent George Southwell confirmed that the sale has been made to a Sydney based buyer for $1.8 million.
"There was a big interest among buyers for the property with a total of 144 enquiries that came from North Queensland, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne to name a few. There were 69 inspections of the property from 57 parties," he said.
"On the day of the auction, we had eight registered bidders and one of them was an Australian working in Japan and bidding from there."
The property boasts of old world charm tastefully renovated to the modern era.
Constructed in 1905, the property has five bedrooms, four bathrooms, four car parking spaces, multiple living areas, four open fireplaces, a swimming pool, tennis court and manicured lawns. Next to the homestead is a separate two-bedroom cottage.
It also has an in-ground trampoline, basketball and netball hoops set up in the large tennis court.
Formerly part of an 8000-hectare sheep station, the homestead and cottage at 16 Walgrove Road sits on 23 acres of quality pasture with direct access to the Yass River.
Water allocation is not an issue with a 350,000 litre annual allocation from the Yass River, two 100,000 litre water storage tanks, and a solar powered bore.
The property is located on the Canberra side of Yass in the heart of Australia's cool climate wine growing region and is two minutes drive from the Barton Highway and six minutes to the Hume Highway.
