Getting back into the groove of being at school six hours a day won't be easy, but spare a thought for those going to school for the very first time.
Not sure how you can help your child transition smoothly into kindergarten? Well you've come to the right place.
Having worked with children for a long time and raising a few herself, Melanie Wakefield, who runs three preschools in the Southern Tablelands, knows all about helping children enter the realm of schooling.
Ms Wakefield said the best way to help children start primary school comfortably was by communicating with them and their teacher.
"This will be a new environment for your children and whether they feel fear and anxiety can depend on whether they have any friends transitioning with them to school," Ms Wakefield said.
"It's always a good idea to try and identify what their concerns are.
"You can talk to them about your experience of going to kindergarten, talk about the school they are going to and also drive past it.
"Let them know it's alright to be afraid, but that they will feel better each day."
"Some will be very clingy to their parents, so keep your routine as normal as possible, have good positive language and reassure the child.
"Ask the child's teacher about whether they should drop their children and run or stay with them for as long as possible on the first day."

Ms Wakefield also said children need to be as independent as they can be due to the teacher to student ratio.
"Children need to be as independent as possible because they will be going into a class of up to 30 students and one teacher, " she said.
"It is important for parents to make sure their lunch boxes and anything inside it can be easily opened and closed by the child.
"If they can't tie their shoe laces, you could buy them Velcro shoes."
