Goulburn Mulwaree Council to host extraordinary meeting on Wakefield Park DA

Owners of the Braidwood Road motor racing complex, some 15km southeast of Goulburn, lodged the DA several months ago in a move they said would help shore up their future.

The plan proposes $5.6 million in new or upgraded infrastructure including a two-storey pit-lane building with a corporate function, cafe and guest area, first floor viewing terrace, race control and commentary box, 14-vehicle garage, office and administration, medical centre and ambulance and emergency response vehicle parking.

But owners, the Benalla Auto Group, are also keen to build a new off-road experience area, continue use of the camping area and existing visitor accommodation facilities in conjunction with motor sport activities.

The application aims to formalise the terms of a noise prevention notice issued to the raceway earlier this year.

But the bid has generated 35 public submissions, a recent council report stated. Some of these object to perceived noise and negative impacts on lifestyle and amenity. The submission period ran for an extended period between September 24 and November 5.

General manager Warwick Bennett advised councillors to hold a separate meeting, given the interest, to allow adequate time for debate and for submitters to speak. The latter will receive up to 10 minutes to air their case, rather than the usual five.

They will receive the large volume of accompanying documents to read two weeks beforehand and be invited to a special briefing session.

Mr Bennett expected the extraordinary meeting to be held sometime in April.
