After securing nearly $2 million in funding for Community Energy for Goulburn's proposed solar farm, planning is underway for a second one in Goulburn Mulwaree.

CE4G vice-president Ed Suttle confirmed that the details for the second site are being finalised at this stage.
"It is an extension of the current project and we are expecting similar financial returns from it. If everything goes according to the plan, the second site will be functional at the same time as the one on Bridge Street," Mr Suttle said.

Goulburn's would be the biggest community-owned solar farm in NSW, is one of the first community-owned solar farms to be built with its own battery. The battery storage will enable investors to benefit from the sale of electricity into the grid when prices are higher enabling a higher return on investment.
The farm will be community owned, operated and managed with profits staying in the local community.
The proposed solar farm raised over $1.5 million in a fortnight and a public public event attended by around 60 people was held earlier this month to raise funds. Shares cost $400 each (the cost of a solar panel, fully wired-up); each investor has a single vote, regardless of how many shares they own.
Built on 2.5 hectares on Bridge Street, off Sydney Road, the solar farm is expected to start operating in July 2021. The farm will generate 1.8 megawatts (MW), and pump 1.2 MW into the grid - enough to power 450 homes.
In March, the state government granted $2.1 million towards the 1.8 megawatt farm.
