The Hume Police District welcomes Superintendent Paul Condon

Superintendent Condon was the Commander of the Monaro Police District (PD) for two-and-a-half years and the Commander of the Deniliquin PD for four years.

The Commander has a background in general duties policing, working mainly in the Southern Region, as well as extensive experience in tactical and public order policing.

Superintendent Condon also has extensive experience in emergency management and major event management.

While at Monaro PD he was responsible for the coordinated response to the 2020 summer bushfires, the Monaro COVID response and Victorian border closure operation, as well as the management of the snow season.

Superintendent Condon has highlighted domestic violence, property crime, road trauma and youth diversion as crucial areas and ones he particularly wants to target.

He has lived in the Goulburn area and he has extensive experience in commanding country police districts.

He added that strengthening relationships across the border in the ACT, surrounding police districts and most importantly with communities was "vital to police doing their job".

He said he would prioritise his staff being part of the community and accessible to their community.

"We can only reduce crime by working with the community and the community working with us. We live in the community and are part of it, " he said.

He referenced the rise in "opportunistic crimes," such as car theft, where cars and homes are regularly left unlocked, as an area where better communication with community members could see positive results.

Superintendent Condon said he wanted to see the elimination of road deaths.

He expressed disappointment with people who speed, drive under the influence, and use mobile phones while driving.

"My officers go out all the time and deal with the most awful trauma," he said.

"We need to stop these deaths that could be prevented, and this starts with drivers changing their behaviour."
