The Goulburn Mulwaree Council's recent push to have a Greyhound Centre of Excellence established in town has received a timely boost from Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman.

Following the decision made at the council meeting on Tuesday, August 4, to lobby Racing Minister Kevin Anderson and Greyhound NSW, Ms Tuckerman said she has also appealed to Mr Anderson, and deputy premier John Barilaro.
"I support the council in their submission and have also made representations to the minister and the deputy premier highlighting the importance of Southern NSW to be considered," Ms Tuckerman said.
"Goulburn should be home to a Southern NSW Centre of Excellence, inclusive of a straight track."
Ms Tuckerman expressed disappointment that Southern NSW had not already been identified for a Centre of Excellence in the Greyhound NSW draft strategy and subsequent proposed capital works program.
Citing the town's location and the experience and commitment of the Goulburn Greyhound Racing Club, Ms Tuckerman said building the Centre of Excellence in Goulburn would be ideal.
"The city of Goulburn is an easily accessible location for both regional and metropolitan markets," she said.
"The Goulburn Greyhound Racing Club are dedicated to providing the best facilities possible and already host many events - Goulburn as home to a Centre of Excellence is a fantastic option for all parties."
Ms Tuckerman added that she believes the centre should be built on a greenfield site, and promised to fight to bring the investment to Goulburn.
"Greyhound racing is already an important part of Goulburn's economy and if the Centre of Excellence is built here, the entire region will benefit," she said.
"A Centre of Excellence will go a long way towards supporting the owners and trainers, as well as the health and welfare of the animals. The facility would enhance the city's tourism offering and drive economic growth in the region."
The proposed Centre of Excellence is slated to possess best-practice track design and maintenance, as well as kennel, training, and education facilities.
It would also include non-racing elements such as facilities to host educational programs for owners, trainers, and other participants; and an on-site veterinary clinic, hospital, hydrotherapy pool and supplies store.
