And for organisations such as the St Vincent de Paul Society, this has also been the case.
With measures in place to slow the spread and stop COVID-19, president of the Canberra/Goulburn territory council John Feint said these had "certainly restricted the way we do things".
The St Vincent de Paul store in Goulburn remains closed Mr Feint said he was unsure when it would re-open.
"It depends a lot on the advice from the government and who we have got available in the community to operate the centre," he said.
"We are mindful of the wellbeing of our volunteers. [But] we are working hard to get the stores open."
While they may not be able to meet face to face with the community, Mr Feint said anyone in need was still able to contact them over the phone.
He said over the past few months, Goulburn had 183 calls and in a year it usually had about 1300.
During the shut down, he said St Vincent de Paul had strived to keep in contact with the community.
"Loneliness is a big issue," Mr Feint said.
They also distributed food as well as providing "emotional support" for those struggling during the pandemic.
Mr Feint said they were also able to help connect people with other services in the community which could assist them.
And along with the recent difficulties, he said they were still helping people in the community to recover from the bushfires earlier this year.
Over the past few months, Mr Feint said the number of donations they received had increased.
Each donation is left for 72 hours before being sorted and he said the challenge now was to "work out how to manage them."
While the Goulburn store may be closed, Mr Feint said they were still able to access resources from the centre to distribute within the community if needed.
"The conference will still provide vouchers and supply stuff from the closed centre to people," he said.
"It's more of an issue that people can't come into the store. But the resources are still there and available to people."
And while the challenging times continue, Mr Feint encouraged anyone struggling to call and seek assistance.
"Don't hesitate to call if you need help. If we can't provide that direct help we can refer you to people who can help."
