"It has been enjoyably hectic," he said. "I like to learn new things constantly. Though I have experience in management and sales, learning about radio has been my biggest challenge in the role. I have a good team at the radio station and they are keen to help me learn."
Mr Matthews aims to reinvigorate the public face of the radio station. "We want to be community-driven and community-focused and make sure that people know that we are here. We want to take the interest of the community in radio to newer heights," he said.
"We are a communication centrepiece in the community. The radio has constant interaction with people whether they are tuned in while driving or are at home or working. We have an important role to play to promote the right message while being community-focused and maintaining a commercial and business mindset.
"The radio station in Goulburn also has a big part to play in the local community as it gives exposure to businesses and connects them. My aim is to try and find that balance between the community and the business side of things."
Mr Matthews is a father of four and calls them his driving force. "I used to travel all over the state while my family was in Goulburn. Being able to spend more time with my family here made me take this opportunity when it presented itself," he said.
When he is not working at the radio station, he can be found studying law on a part-time basis. "I want to study to open doors. It also helps me understand society and the framework that upholds the society," he said.
Living in Goulburn for the past four years, he loves the community spirit here. "Everyone has been welcoming here. I like the people and their mindset here. Whether you are focusing on Goulburn, Crookwell or Taralga, there is a real community spirit in each of those community towns," he said.
