The council will coordinate competitions, information stalls and an awareness campaign.
FOGO stands for 'Food Organics Garden Organics' and includes kitchen scraps, expired food, lawn clippings, small branches and organic garden waste.
Mayor Bob Kirk especially encouraged parents to work with children to educate and improve family habits.
"It's so important for us as a community to improve all of our waste habits, and throughout February we are specifically focusing on FOGO or green waste," he said.
"There is a cost to everything we throw away, whether it goes in general waste, recycling or organic waste.

"We also need to improve as a community in keeping contamination out of our bins.
"For FOGO waste, this means glass, metal, plastics, treated timber and anything that is not organic."
A colouring competition for children of all ages will have waste-inspired toy packs as prizes for winners chosen by Mayor Bob Kirk.
During February, the council will also undertake a number of initiatives, including education stalls in Goulburn Square and outside Belmore Park, and kids' education days at the library on the 18th and 20th.
Social media posts will also be uploaded each week providing detailed information and answering frequently asked questions the council receives from the community about caddy liners and what to do if the FOGO bin has been tagged and rejected.
