Australian National University (ANU) Professor Andrew Blakers will talk about pumped hydro and the potential of this technology.
"With the help of the workshop, we are trying to help our community understand aspects of climate change and create a general awareness of the opportunities that are before us," Hume CCL members Ian Anderson said.
"With our carbon footprint increasing from burning fossil fuels, we are looking at what are the different ways of managing it."
"The CCL wants to inform people about climate change and make them aware of the facts. We want to show them how we can adapt and how it can be feasible to adapt," she said.
"We need as much information in public as possible. Through this discussion, people can find out more about such topics so they can be better informed."
The ANU has completed an audit of 22,000 potential sites across the country for pumped hydro energy storage, which can be used to support a secure and cheap national electricity grid with 100% renewable energy.
"The short-term off-river pumped hydro energy storage sites combined had a potential storage capacity of 67,000 gigawatt-hours (GWh), much more than the capacity required for a zero-emission grid," lead researcher Prof Andrew Blakers said.
Mr Blakers is a Professor of Engineering at the ANU and was a Humboldt Fellow. He has had Australian Research Council QEII and senior research fellowships.
His research interests are in the area of silicon photovoltaic solar cells and renewable energy systems.
The event will be held at Soldiers Club on February 6 at 7pm.
