Lake George Inspector Chris Allen said the blaze took a run in pine plantation and at one point jumped Oallen Ford Road east of the Shoalhaven River.
However crews were able to extinguish it and Inspector Allen said currently, there was no active fire north of Oallen Ford Road.
"The winds were going everywhere," he said.
"Right now they're blowing east-south-east and it's calmed down."
Inspector Allen said while properties in the area were burning, crews didn't have to go into property protection mode to save structures.
Nevertheless, brigades will be keeping a watch overnight.
"Our goal is to hold it east of Burden Road and south of Oallen Ford Road," he said.
Crew numbers generally decrease overnight, allowing most firefighters to rest. However numbers will ramp up again tomorrow as the area and NSW enter another run of high temperatures.
Lake George RFS zone looks after the fire in the Queanbeyan/Palerang area, 5km north of Nerriga.
Oallen and Windellama RFS, which are part of Southern Tablelands zone, has been sending crews over each night to help on the Currowan fire.
Their units were also working Christmas Day, manning roadblocks and personnel ate Christmas lunch from the back of a ute, thanks to a community donation.
