Firefighters from around the Southern Tablelands will join crews from the Upper Lachlan Shire to continue to set up containment lines in the Wombeyan-Karst National Park.
The weather forecast was to have eased slightly today, but Saturday could bring more dangerous fire conditions, said RFS operational officer for the Southern Tablelands, Lachlan Gilchrist.
"There will be three to four wind direction changes throughout the day, which will make the fire erratic," Mr Gilchrist said.
Firefighters have been on 12-hour rotating shifts establishing containment lines along the Colong Stock Route, and Range Fire Trail Road towards Limeburners Fire Trail, and will continue on the Maneveland Trail to Little Wombeyan Fire Trail.
Weather permitting, backburning operations would continue today, Mr Gilchrist said.
More RFS vehicles will be around the Shire on Friday and residents have been urged not to panic.
The Wombeyan Caves Road remains closed in both directions between Taralga and the High Range Road. Residents may be permitted to access at the discretion of emergency services.
