A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the essential work to replace the existing road surface would deliver smoother, safer journeys for road users.
"The NSW Government has invested $4.2 million in the project as part of its commitment to maintain more than 18,000km of state roads," the spokesperson said.
"Work will be carried out on weeknights between 7pm and 5am from October 20 for up to four weeks, weather permitting, to minimise impacts to motorists."
On the Federal Highway, work will be carried out in Yarra on the southbound lanes between Kibby Rest Area and Thornford Road as well as on the northbound lanes between Rowes Lagoon and Wollogorang Road.
Work will also be carried out on the Federal Highway in Sutton for 200m south of Sutton Road Bridge.
The northbound on and off ramps from the Federal Highway to Sutton Road will close for up to two nights during this work.
During these closures, northbound traffic on the Federal Highway, wishing to access Sutton Road will be detoured via Macs Reef Road and back to the southbound off ramp. Motorists should allow five minutes additional travel time.
Traffic on Sutton Road wishing to enter the Federal Highway, northbound, will be detoured via the southbound on-ramp to Eaglehawk crossover and motorists should allow up to 10 minutes additional travel time.
Road surface upgrades will also take place on the southbound lanes of the Hume Highway between Barkers Bridge and the Federal Highway off ramp.
There will also be up to two nights when the Barkers Lane intersection on the Hume Highway will close to traffic with diversions in place via Parkesbourne Road.
Electronic message signs will advertise specific dates and detour information in advance.
During this time, other sections of the Hume and Federal highways between Goulburn and Wollogorang will also be repaired.
Single lane closures, traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place during work hours for the safety of workers and road users.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and to follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this essential work.
