The council is making it available in Victoria and Belmore parks.
Council general manager Warwick Bennett said the technology that The Goulburn Group had relied upon to introduce WiFi in the CBD seven years ago had aged.
"They relied on a lot of adjoining property owners to give them WiFi access and that is no longer available, apart from two premises. There used to be 11," he said.
Mr Bennett acknowledged that most people relied on their mobile phones for WiFi connection. But visitors to the two parks would benefit from its implementation.
The infrastructure is in place and the council hopes to have it up and running in the next week or so.
It is not being extended to the rest of the CBD.
Meantime, other improvements have occurred in the two parks.
A report to Tuesday night's council meeting stated that restoration work on Belmore Park's original fence on the Auburn Street frontage was completed in August. A local stonemason removed a pillar and a damaged piece of footing and replaced it with new stone.
"The stone, although looking fresh at the moment, is an exact match for the sections that required replacing," staff said.
The works department also replaced damaged pickets and modified the fence to the new section.
A new garden, replacing the old maintenance block in Belmore Park, was also finished in August, along with CCTV installation on the Market Street frontage.
Meantime, planning continues on Victoria Park's Japanese Garden. A delegation visited last month to refine the design. A shipment of two large rocks and a rock lantern from Japan will form part of the garden, which will take in the duck pond and extend towards the current basketball court.
