Local boy Joshua Arnold has won the Sydney Eisteddfod Actors Championship in the age group of 12-14 years this year.

The Year 7 student at Trinity Catholic College in Goulburn was awarded first place with his performances of Chief Weasel in The Wind in the Willows, J.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers and The Tyger.
It was a nine-minute continuous performance with linking dialogue composed of a character sketch, prose and verse held at the Tom Mann Theatre.

"I am stoked that I have been able to win such a prestigious award. After the performance, I looked at all the things that I had not done right. However, in the end, I am happy with my performance," Joshua Arnold said.
"Winning the award makes all that work and effort put in by my parents and my wonderful teacher worthwhile."
Joshua had appeared for the same competition last year in which he came third.

"I wanted to keep coming back and have a good crack at it," he said.
"I want to make a career out of what I am doing. All the awards I can get are great."
Joshua's mother Natalie Albury feels that for her son, it is good for him to participate in competitions apart from the ones being held locally.

"Few years ago, we started competing in different areas as we wanted to confirm whether in big arena, he has got it against others," she said.
"After winning the award, there is a nice satisfaction that comes with it that he is really doing well in whole arena and not just locally."
She has welcomed the news of the proposed Goulburn Performing Arts Centre.
"Maybe, one day, we will see him performing in local town."
Joshua also competed in other sections at Sydney Eisteddfod this year.
He came second in Shakespeare Monologue In Rehearsal Blacks (14 years and under), Character / Monologue (13 years) and prose speaking (13 years).

He was highly commended in Public Speaking (13 years) and came first in Verse Speaking (13 years).
Currently, Joshua is rehearsing with the Rocky Hill Musical Theatre Company for their November production of Oliver playing the 'Artful Dodger'.
He is tutored in singing at the Hume Conservatorium and will compete in Australian National Eisteddfod in Canberra and the Goulburn Eisteddfod in September.
