Goulburn volunteers recognised at awards

He was named the Adult Volunteer of the Year in the NSW as well as the South Coast and Southern Tablelands 2019 Volunteer of the Year.

The Volunteer Team of the Year Award went to the Goulburn Relay for Life Event Committee.

An awards ceremony was held in Queanbeyan on Friday, where volunteers from across the NSW South Coast and Southern Tablelands were today recognised for their outstanding contribution to volunteering.

Mr Taylor, brother of Member for Hume Angus Taylor, is from Nimmitabel and was nominated for his work with the Country Universities Centres.

He was the founding chairman and volunteer CEO of the Country Universities Centre, having helped establish the group's first regional centre in Cooma six years ago.

Goulburn Relay for Life Chair Rosemary Chapman said the win was unexpected.

"I knew nothing about it. I was just advised to come along and watch them," she said.

"It was surprising and exciting to win."

She said the Goulburn Relay for Life has been going since 2003.

"Hopefully this year will be another good one. Sometimes the weather knocks us and sometimes the economic situation knocks us too," she said.

"We are a committee of nine people and we do exceptionally well."

She said the Goulburn Relay for Life would be held on November 2 and 3 in Eastgrove Park.

"We have our first team meeting this Tuesday, August 27 at the Goulburn Workers Club at 6.30pm.

"This is an information night for people to come along to and find out about the event. We are hoping to get a good roll-up to that because it leads to more teams and more involvement."
