One dead, four injured in Binda crashes

Police have confirmed an elderly man from Bigga has died in the multi-vehicle crash near Binda.

He was one of five people involved in a series of accidents in the same area at Junction Point Road, near Binda, some 35km from Crookwell.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 4.50pm today.

Officers from The Hume Police District believe a white Nissan Patrol was being driven south while three other vehicles - a white Subaru, a black Subaru and a black Kluger - were travelling north when the crash occurred.

The first impact involved the Nissan and the white Subaru. Police said the Subaru rolled completely over, landing on it wheels off the road.

The white Nissan and the black Subaru then collided, and a third crash occurred when the driver of the Kluger tried to avoid that wreckage but struck the Nissan.

Two rescue helicopters were called to the scene and police worked with officers from NSW Ambulance and Fire and Rescue NSW, as well as volunteers from local RFS and SES units to assist those involved.

The driver of the black Subaru, a 91-year-old man from Bigga, died at the scene. Police have not named him at this stage.

The driver of the Nissan, a 24-year-old Crookwell man, was airlifted in a serious but stable condition.

A 64-year-old woman from Goulburn, driving the white Subaru, sustained minor injuries and was taken by road ambulance to Goulburn Hospital.

A 69-year-old man and 57-year-old woman, both from Greystanes travelling in the black Kluger, were also taken by road to Goulburn Base Hospital.

Crash investigators from the Southern Region have arrived on site and have started an examination of the scene.

Update Friday 6.30pm

Ambulance Media reported that nobody had been airlifted from the scene of a four-car collision near Binda.

Eight crews are on site, including the two helicopters, road ambulance and community first responders.

Friday 5:40pm

Two helicopters are on the scene of a multi-vehicle accident north of Crookwell.

Police said four vehicles were involved in the crash at about 5pm on Friday north of Binda on Junction Point Road. It is 2km past Funny Hill Station.

A NSW Ambulance Media spokesperson said a 60-year-old female, who was trapped in her vehicle, was suffered chest injuries and was being assessed for helicopter transfer. A 20-year-old male was being transferred to hospital with a forearm fracture and a possible ankle fracture. She said there were five patients involved but these were the two most critical.

Three ambulances were on scene and more were on their way.

The road is blocked in both directions with traffic backed up on the Crookwell side, a motorist reports.

Rural Fire Service Southern Tablelands zone manager Peter Alley said he'd had reports of five vehicles involved in the accident. Crookwell and Binda Brigades were among crews attending for fire suppression.
