Should it be called the Henry Goulburn Walking track, the River Walkway, the Wollomul River Track or Bila Galang Bula?

These were just some of the names tossed around as possible monikers for the Wollondilly Walking Trail in a recent council coordinated public consultation.
A total 246 people voted on the poll which was distributed through the council Facebook page, newspaper and radio, a report to Tuesday night’s council meeting stated. Most favoured The River Walkway or Gundangara Trail (both 17 per cent), followed by the Wollondilly River Walkway (12pc) and The Meeting Place River Walk (11pc).
Deputy Mayor Alf Walker said he was disappointed that only 246 people responded and favoured the river names, due to their Aboriginal connection. Cr Leah Ferrara questioned councillor moves to name it something else, ignoring community feeling. Cr Andrew Banfield had argued that with such a small response, councillors could decide themselves.
Cr Denzil Sturgiss argued both river names could apply.
The idea planted a seed. After considerable debate, councillors decided to name the trail the Wollondilly River Walkway beside that waterway and the Mulwaree River Walkway from the point it met the Mulwaree River.
Work is underway to extend the track, with an eventual aim to build a walkway stretching over to the Old Goulburn Brewery.
