Murray Cod from Marian Vale Blue is going global

They are celebrating the launch of their sustainably-produced fish product into Hong Kong.

Marian Vale Blue General Manager John Breen said the company is the only registered holder of a multiple consignment permit for the export of Murray Cod.

“We only have a small team, but we are dedicated to producing a consistent premium supply of Murray Cod and the farm's carbon footprint, water usage and waste volume are kept to an absolute minimum,” Mr Breen said. 

“We have engaged with experts in sustainable aquaculture to deal with every aspect of the eco-friendly system, including natural and mechanical alternatives to chemical treatments, water recycling, aquaponics and feed nutrient optimisation and sustainability.

“Our export success finally came after displaying at the Hong Kong Fine Food Show where we gained the attention of suppliers. In the next three years our exporting activities are expected to triple current production, which will mean we can hire more staff and expand our facilities.” 

NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Sport Stuart Ayres visited the fish farm on December 2. He said ethically produced seasonal food has never been more in demand.

“Marian Vale Blue is a prime example of the ‘clean, green and safe’ export product highly so sought after in Asia. Now they join the ranks of regional businesses doing big things overseas where there is an insatiable demand for high quality food and beverages,” Mr Ayres said. 

"Demand for high quality fish products from NSW is set to boom internationally and increase by up to 70 per cent by 2055 and it’s businesses like Marian Vale Blue the NSW Government is assisting to get onto the international stage.”

Member for Goulburn Pru Goward said Marian Vale Blue is already the largest producer of Murray Cod in the country.

“The largest Murray Cod farm in the world is based right here in the Goulburn district providing the best quality fish to the Australian public and now to the world,” Ms Goward said. 

“As this business looks to expand into other markets like Singapore and Thailand this will mean more regional jobs and run on benefits to our local economy.  I encourage other local businesses to learn how the NSW Government can help with advice and insights to launch their business overseas.”
