Thanks to a $30,000 grant from the NSW Government Office of Communities Community Building Partnership program, plus $30,000 from Council, the ageing equipment near Sloane Street will be replaced.
Work was expected to start yesterday.
Council’s Acting Manager Waste and Aquatic Centre Robbie Hughes highlighted that the train area of the park would not be impacted by the refurbishment.
“The work includes the removal of the existing play equipment close to Sloane St, which is aimed at older children.
It will be replaced by new, safer and more modern play equipment,” he said.
“The works is expected to be completed by November 9, weather permitting.
“It is important for parents to realise that children will still be able to play on the train area while work takes place.
Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Geoff Kettle said the new equipment would enhance Goulburn’s CBD.
“I would particularly like to thank the NSW Government Office of Communities and the Member for Goulburn Pru Goward for supporting this project.
“This project is not only part of Council’s program of improving children’s play areas, but will also enhance the iconic and historic Belmore Park, a prominent landmark in the heart of Goulburn.
“Children will have safer and more interesting play equipment to challenge and entertain them.”
Belmore Park is often cited as one of the earliest surviving public parks on a state, national and British Empire scale, and one of the best examples of park design in Australia.
