The team took to the road to take on the Mud Chooks and looked strong following the kick-off, but a try to Bungendore after the first ten minutes of the game, immediately put Yass on the back foot.
Despite the good defensive efforts from Geoffrey Sykes and Ed Ngatai in the back line, Bungendore went through to score another three tries and kick a penalty goal before the half-time whistle had blown.
The score was 23-0 going into the break. Straight into the second half, Bungendore was fortunate to score another two quick tries, pushing the score out to 37-0.
The Yass Rams still holding their own in the scrums, pushed their way down to the try line but were unsuccessful in getting over before the ball was stripped away from them.
This led to another two tries in equally quick succession to Bungendore, stretching the score to 47-0. Again, the Rams’ back line was put to the test. Vaughn Winnell and Harry Bush defended well but couldn’t stop Bungendore’s last try, finishing the game with a convincing 54-0 win.
The Yass Rams are off to Batemans Bay for round two this weekend. All new players are still welcome to join the training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursday nights at Victoria Park from 6.30pm.
