Many former pupils and teachers attended the dinner, held in the club’s auditorium.
Mayor Geoff Kettle and Member for Goulburn Pru Goward were also in attendance as was former student, Cr Carol James.
David Cooper, a former art teacher from 1960-63, had some fond memories of his role within the school, and had some great stories to tell.
“Not only was I one of the members of the Cadet unit, but I was also responsible for the scenery art for the School’s theatrical group,” he said.
“I also designed the sets for musical productions such as South Pacific, The King and I, Oklahoma, plus many more. “ He also told the Post that he taught part-time at Goulburn Jail.
Another former teacher Ross Banwell was responsible for the formation of the Cadet unit, and ran it from 1950-1975.
He constructed 130 canoes for the Cadet unit, and used to take some of the students down the Shoalhaven River, but unfortunately due to government regulations, he had to stop this.
“I started off as a Lieutenant, then became Captain, and eventually a Major in the Unit, and the kids did really enjoy it,” he said.
“But unfortunately the Whitlam government stopped it in the reforms in the mid 70s.
“But I then went on with one of the lady teachers to form the Duke of Edinburgh Award, which is still very successful to this day.”
A former student Lorraine Hoolihan is the mother of musical theatre actress Kate Hoolihan who starred as ‘Scaramouche’ in the worldwide musical hit, ‘We Will Rock You’.
Kate has also performed alongside Hugh Jackman in ‘The Boy From Oz’.
Another former student, Robyn Worthy (nee Belgrove) now living on the Gold Coast, formerly modelled for the former Allens and Rogers department stores in Goulburn in the 1970s.
She told the Post she was part of the scene with both Moya Debenham and Phyllis Rudd.
Ms Worthy was also a local artist for a while with a Mrs Beamish and Peter Constant. She was also a runner in the school athletic team.
Her sister Annette, also a former student, is now an Associate Professor in School of Mathematics at the University of Wollongong, and played hockey and softball for the school.
