Organised by the Goulburn Marketplace, marketing manager Jane Slattery said the night was originally tabled as a community event for the district.
Utilising the 3,208 square meter car park space, management unanimously agreed it was a “prime location” for the event last October.
Foods for sale included burgers, chicken wings, slow smoked BBQ pork and beef, waffles, fairy floss and Danish cones.
A total of 28 vendors participated.
Some vendors were forced to travel back to Sydney for ingredients, others had to stop selling on Friday to cater for sales on the following night.
“We wanted to do something for the community. I don’t think Goulburn is top of mind for these types of roadshows,” she said.
Reaching out to Aussie Nightmarkets, a sydney-based company which brings food trucks together, the two bodies, with support of the Goulburn Mulwaree Council, planned the event.
This was the first time Aussiemarkets organised a food truck fair outside of Sydney.
Ms Slattery admitted, despite the targeted media campaign, that she did not expect such high numbers.
“The response was overwhelming, the community got behind it,” she said. “It’s lovely to see the event reach out to the older and younger community.”
She was “quite touched” when attendees continued to approach her, thanking her for the fair.
Director of Aussie Nightmarkets Samuel Adams said he and Phaly Adams, co-owner and partner, initially saw Goulburn as a trial.
“We were wondering how it would go and willing to give it a shot,” he said.
“A lot of vendors broke records in sales. Our biggest feedback was how friendly the locals were, it resonated with everyone.”
He said Aussie Nightmarkets will be “working really hard” to return.
“The food truck event was a great event run independently of Council,” the council’s marketing, events and culture manager Sarah Ruberto said.
“Council’s Marketing and Events Team continue to promote Goulburn as a destination to visit, live, work and invest through our own various strategies including our extensive event calendar.”
